Bedroom Pop
The official definition of Bedroom Pop would be Lofi-styled music made at home. Personal studios and DIY-esque production was the birth of the genre. In 2026, it has lost its meaning slightly. The genre is more often described as a sound rather than the production process. Regardless of how it’s made, Bedroom Pop works alongside other genres. Typical characteristics are minimalist production and emotionally driven lyrics. Lots of samples come out of independent Bedroom Pop artists. This genre feeds into TikTok a lot, especially in the early 2020s. A sentiment of the music is that artists tend to leave imperfections in the song. This aims to provide a more raw, intimate, and personal piece of art. The style of Bedroom Pop can be implemented into almost any of the genres previously mentioned. Many of the artists who exist within the space that this site covers will use Bedroom Pop with Dream Pop, Folk or general Indie music. Of all niches mentioned so far, this one is the most recent. Internet culture created this genre, with aspiring artists able to share their work from home. Without needing labels or large-scale equipment, people online took a liking to the personal performances.
Influential Bedroom Pop artists
Clairo is one of the most influential Bedroom Pop artists since the genre gained popularity. This is her second inclusion as a major artist on our entry genres, proving how successful she has been within these communities. From the beginning of her career to the present day her music has always had that DIY sound. In her most recent album ‘Charm’, there has been a slightly more polished production, but the fingerprints are still there. However, even with this success, I don’t believe Clairo is the biggest artist to come out of the Bedroom Pop era.
Beabadoobee started her career deep into the Bedroom Pop sound. Heavily Lofi, extremely stripped-back, intimate songs. As her career has progressed she has constantly developed her sound. From Rock to outright Pop she hasn’t stayed as tied to the genre as she once was. Beabadoobee has grown to be one of my personal favourites, and the early Bedroom Pop roots shaped her as an artist. She in turn also shaped Bedroom Pop as a whole with how viral she has gone multiple times. Her ‘Death Bed’ collaboration with ‘Powfu’ was an internet sensation at the time. With the numbers that track brought in, it kickstarted the genre, encouraging many small artists to try and emulate the success.
Additional major artists
Other artists who have become notable Bedroom Pop artists include Rex Orange County, PinkPantheress, Girl In Red and Conan Gray. Many artists start off with Bedroom Pop production and as they gain popularity, they can grow into their true vision. PinkPantheress is the best example of this. In the present day she has grown into a sensation, and her sound is very far from her original Bedroom Pop roots. This is a consistent trend among artists like this. Using the tools available to them following their early success, artists expand their sound and aren’t limited to small budget production.
