Overview
Indigo De Souza is a 28-year-old artist who has gained a fair amount of notoriety from the release of her debut EP ‘Boys‘ in 2016. Her debut album ‘I Love My Mom‘ followed in 2018. Both of these projects were quite successful as a breakout artist and some of her standout tracks remain on them.
Heavily invested in the indie rock sound, but never scared to break into the Indie Folk and pop space. Indigo De Souza has proven her range since the beginning.
Our standout tracks from her debut album
Indigo De Souza’s debut album contains some of my personal favourites. There are many moments of raw performances and vulnerable lyrics, making it the type of album many people can connect to.
‘The sun is bad’ is an extremely stripped-back song. Very intimate vocals are sung with a lot of emotion. A song devoid of hope, which can be said for a few tracks on this album, the emotional tone is well conveyed. A Folk-Rock chorus is a highlight of this track, working alongside her strong vocals, they together bring an emotional peak to the song.
‘Sick In The Head’ is her most aggressive vocal delivery, potentially throughout her whole career. At the same time, she breaks into a softer, higher-pitched delivery at other points in the track. This song is Indie Rock mixed with a Folk influence from start to finish. The bassline is brought to the front of the track with distorted guitars and a consistent drum pattern. The contrast to the soft chorus is a classic recipe for a rewarding listen. ‘What Are We Gonna Do Now’ is quite a unique listen.
Just like ‘The Sun Is Bad’ it starts off extremely stripped back, with the base genre of the track leaning heavily into Folk. At the midway point of the song, it unexpectedly breaks into a much faster tempo with an intense percussive switch-up. Still within the Folk sound, this song manages to go from one end to the other.
Later projects
Releasing three more albums between 2021 and 2025, she has kept up with consistent music. Exploring more funk and groove elements, she has ventured out of her initial sound. Each album sounds like a progression from the last. The sound of each album at its core is different from the one that came before. However, throughout her tracklists, there are moments that she recaptures that signature aesthetic.
Album list
- Any Shape You Take (2021)
- All Of This Will End (2023)
- Precipice (2025)

Lyrical content
Indigo De Souza does not shy away lyrically. She isn’t afraid to explore uncomfortable themes or crude lyrics. To me, this is a part of her appeal, an artist putting it all on display.
Some of her songs can be an uncomfortable listen sometimes, such as in ‘Real Pain’. The song reaches a climax of layered screams, and although it may not be the type of song you listen to all the time, it is a fantastic listen.
The sentiment of the song is the release of pain that many humans go through as their lives go on, a way to let it all out.
Her themes have generally grown brighter as the years have gone on. Her most recent album Precipice is filled with hopeful instrumentals. Her lyrical content is aimed at bringing a clearer message of positivity and growth.
A collection of our favourites
Please remember this artist has four albums and an EP released in total. There are plenty of songs exploring electro-pop, punk, synth and grunge. Her later albums deliver a range of polished sounds and we encourage people to explore the artists we cover, even outside of our recommendations.
