Artist pages are designed to be an efficient overview of the artist as a whole, but here we take a closer look at the meaning behind the releases. Title: WHOEVER YOU WANT ME TO BE (NO MORE)

Released June 5th 2026

WHOEVER YOU WANT ME TO BE (NO MORE) is expected to be the final single before Ivri’s next EP. This follows her last single, ‘Noise’, which was released on March 6th 2026. Details surrounding the EP haven’t been disclosed publicly. Despite this, through social media and recent tour dates, we can be sure it’s coming. As stated on her artist page, she doesn’t intend to stay genre-specific, and this new release continues to prove that true.

New release

The last track covered on the new music page was ‘Multiplied’ by Luna Li. In a strikingly similar fashion, Ivri’s release covers similar topics, but from a completely different angle. The core theme here is identity, but specifically how a person can tend to alter their identity to appease someone else. Forcing yourself to meet certain characteristics to satisfy the other person, even if there is no natural connection. This form of ‘love’ can end up being deceptive to both people within this relationship, and once the facade can’t be kept up any longer, it can all come crashing down. During all of this, you can create a loss of identity, losing who you truly are to the relationship. However, I also believe this song to be self-critical. I think the artist is acknowledging the fact that although the other person has set expectations outside of her means, she’s still acted deceptively. Labelling herself ‘the flower that blooms the obsession’ is directly taking blame for creating this image that has led to mutual obsession. ‘I am the host that will spread the infection’ further adds to this, saying that her decision is the root of what caused this. Reflecting on both sides of the story, the message of the song comes back to the fact that there was nothing else that she could do. At the expense of her own mental health, she attempted to make both sides happy, but the other person’s differing needs and overall ignorance had exhausted all of her options.

Sonically, this track takes a very different approach to ‘Noise’. Her typical Electro-Rock style can still be heard, but overall this track is much more pop-based than prior releases. Heavy distortion and stutters that are found predominantly in Hyperpop can be heard too. Although she has had minor influences of Hyperpop before, this does feel like another new direction, leading this track to fall into yet another new category for the artist. A very melodic track which has some of her catchiest segments so far makes me believe that this song will stream well. It takes many of the staple Alternative influences and attempts to blend them into a more accessible style.

Title: Nightdress

Released 30th of April 2026

Nightdress is a surprise single release from the duo as a goodbye before they move on to their new venture, ‘BugBear’. After over two years without an official release, this song serves as a significant moment in their final chapter. We aren’t sure if there will be any follow-ups after this release, but based on the wording of their promotion, it seems there may be more singles to come. They stated that they’re releasing the work that they recorded while the group was active, so we’ll have to wait and see if there are additional tracks.

Idlework.

New release

The song begins with an unsettling composition that persists throughout. This sound is rich in atmosphere; the rugged guitar is key in setting the tone. Vocally, the lead singer, Daisy, opts for a gentle delivery that plays into the eerie landscape. As mentioned on their artist page, she sings with a strong accent here, even more so than in the past. I love this inclusion, and I find it to be a very refreshing detail. On this particular release, the vocals are frequently harmonised with who we assume is Ivo. This isn’t something that they’ve done throughout their career, but it is certainly a fantastic inclusion. Their delivery complements the lyrical content of the track, coming across as a plea of desperation. The use of sensory writing and vulnerable lines ties it together as one. The tension built through all of these inputs unite to create that thick atmosphere. Throughout the track, there are moments of their signature experimental style. The primary example of this is the sudden bass reverbs heard mostly in the D&B genre. Hearing this in a track alongside a minimalist piano or restrained drums is exactly why I appreciate Idlework.. They build a song in an unconventional way to provide a truly unique experience.
