Florence Road

Overview

Florence Road are an Irish Indie Rock band. With strong Alt Rock themes and an accompanying Grunge Pop influence, they bring the sound of the 2000s to the present day. The band consists of four key members, all around the age of 20. This has led to their lyrical content being heavily centred around the emotional journey into adulthood.

Early singles

As of April 2026, the group only has 10 unique songs released on Spotify. Some of my favourite releases of 2026 have come from this incredibly small discography. Despite being so early on in their career, they have built a steady audience. With 1.3m monthly listeners, their sentiment seems to be quality over quantity.

Their first single, released in 2022, is titled ‘Another Seventeen‘. Literal to the name, the members were around 17 at the time of release, marking a very young debut. This was my entry to the group and remains a good opening point for new listeners. This track gives you a feeling of their punk rock approach, reminiscent of a 2000s Paramore in some ways. In later tracks, they have ventured into a slightly more mature sound. I still personally love their debut though.

Florence Road’s EPs

The band is currently on a rapid climb following the release of ‘Heavy‘ in March 2025. When I initially found the group in January 2025, I thought they were dormant, with one song from three years prior. One year later, they have a strong social media presence, including a 1m following on TikTok, and a 300k following on Instagram. They took the traction from their breakout single and maximised it. Fall Back and Forward Spring both have similar sounds, which they execute perfectly. From the songs released, they sound like a much more experienced band. Once again, the Paramore comparisons draw me in heavily. Although that may be a very high bar to reach, they are off to a great start.

Career highlights

In only 10 songs, there is a level of range displayed. Although they aren’t necessarily pushing boundaries, they are executing the sounds they attempt very well. Heavier tracks like ‘Figure It Out‘ hit exactly how you would want them to. Compelling basslines, multiple guitars and a central drummer create a complete sound. Including a confident lead vocalist creates an amazing recipe. On the flip side, the first half of ‘Miss‘ is soft singing over an acoustic guitar. A much more gentle approach, more comparable to the soft side of Olivia Rodrigo. In the second half of the track, the instrumental flips, and we go straight back into that Rock sound, combining both sides.

My personal favourites right now are ‘Heavy’, which has been mentioned a few times, along with ‘Hand Me Downs’. Heavy has a massive chorus with a very satisfying chord progression. The vocals on this chorus are the strongest on potentially any track of theirs. This type of combination is exactly what you want from an Indie Rock band like this. On the outro, the instrumental is dropped and only the vocals and a piano remain. It’s a beautiful outro, once more showing how talented a vocalist she is. ‘Hand Me Downs’ is similar to ‘Miss’, combining the soft and heavy sounds they switch between. However, I believe this is their best attempt at it with the heavier drop-ins hitting like a wall of sound, and the mellow sections being the perfect prefix to that. The further the track goes, the more the drop-ins are prolonged with extra vocals layered in across it.

Additional thoughts

Given the trajectory of this group I would not be surprised to see them continue to grow. When I initially found their Spotify at the start of 2025, they had around 40,000 listeners. To have this growth in just over a year bodes very well for their career. I have a preference for their more traditional Rock sound compared to the mellow stints. However, they are very capable of both, and I strongly recommend keeping tabs on their new socials for any new music.
