Luna Li
Overview
Luna Li (Hannah Bussiere Kim) is an indie artist known for specialising in Bedroom Pop, Indie Pop and Psychedelic Pop. Her career kicked off with a track called ‘2516’ from her early EP ‘Jams’.
Luna Li is mixed Canadian and Korean. This has played a role in her creative decisions as an artist. Her album title ‘Duality’ is a direct reference to balancing multicultural identity. Growing up in a very musical household introduced her to classical instruments and began her journey within the art form.

Primary genres
Dream Pop, Bedroom Pop, Psychedelic Pop, Indie Pop, Indie Rock
Duality
Luna Li has two full-length albums. The first was released in 2022 (Duality) and the second was released in 2025 (When A Thought Grows Wings). Keeping a consistent sound throughout, she has established her lane thoroughly. Duality came as a major step up from her Jam EPs. A fully fleshed out project with multiple features, including one from major artist Beabadoobee. A dreamy-sounding record that still finds time for larger moments, such as the outro of Cherry Pit and the chorus of Silver Into Rain. The use of classical instruments is much more prevalent than it is for most artists within the genre, providing a unique element in her music.
Standout tracks
‘Duality’ is personally my favourite project of Luna Li’s. ‘Silver Into Rain’ is a fantastic fusion of Dream Pop, Indie Rock and Psychedelia. The verses are hazy with extremely light, layered vocals that take priority over the instrumental. A slow guitar over a constant, quiet bass pluck creates a soft foundation for the track. The chorus is much grander, her vocals become fuller and both the guitar and drums pick up. Once Beabadoobee comes in, it’s the final part to round out a fantastic track, with her vocals blending into the sound perfectly.
‘Space’ is Dream Pop and Psychedelic Indie from start to finish. Layered vocals, airy backing vocals and a distorted guitar. A track that prioritises melody, there are many flow switches on this track. Luna Li gives the instrumental a lot of space to breathe at times, not trying to cram her lyrics in. For a three-minute track, this works, as the song’s atmosphere is so apparent that it does the lifting when she isn’t delivering vocals.
‘What You’re Thinking’ is the fastest-paced track on the album. It starts with a repeated chorus filling up the forefront of the song. This track is a lot busier with its arrangement. Timid synths, strings, and a variety of other effects are sprinkled throughout. This track is one of the least diverse in terms of genres, almost fully committing to the Dream Pop sound. All these tracks keep the theme of the album with a strong atmosphere and audible colour palette.

When A Thought Grows Wings
Something that Luna Li does very well is matching her music with colours. Duality sounds warm throughout, flooded with oranges and yellows. ‘When A Thought Grows Wings’ is no different, bringing the natural aesthetics to life through green, spacious instrumentals.
Despite ‘Duality’ garnering significantly more streams, her sophomore album holds up in quality to me. With a little extra groove added, this album rewards you for listening closely. Additional orchestral elements, along with soulful basslines, make it close to her debut, while also being its own thing.
Standout tracks
A year later, she released a reimagined version of the album filled with features. Nine tracks are featured on disc one. Each song contains one new feature. There’s also a second disc featuring four jam tracks. These are the base instrumentals being played with by the instrumentalists.
Continuing her career-long dreamy aesthetic, the reimagined concept takes a new view on the previous songs. This is her latest release to date; she remains active on socials and performing shows. We can expect more music, but with no confirmed projects or dates, only time will tell when it will be.
Additional thoughts
Despite her most successful track in streaming being from her first EP, I truly believe her debut and sophomore albums have shown a higher level. Luna Li’s albums reward those who listen to them in their intended orders. Blends and lyrical content from previous tracks add to a linear listening experience. Her ability to make cohesive projects rather than only impressive stand-alone songs shows her progression as an artist.
